Vital Medicare Compliance Session - Please Attend
Joy Newby, from Newby Consultants recently visited our chapter to conduct three sessions of Medicare Coding Compliance. In these sessions Joy became aware of a number of alarming situations that were presented to her by coders working for our members. We feel that all members, even those directly involved with the coding process, should be aware of issues that affect compliance. Starting March 1, 2009 Medicare has contracted with auditors in each state and will be conducting more indepth audits of physician practices statewide. Please attend this important session!
Physicians Medicare Compliance Session - Friday, May 1, 2009 5:30pm - 9:30pm in conjunction with the A.C.E. Conference
Also, please plan to bring your entire staff to next year's pre-conference for Billing and Coding (Wednesday - Friday during ACE). More information to come!

Presenting CME at an AzAFP Meeting
The
AzAFP Education Committee---with the help of needs assessments,
surveys, and course evaluations---chooses the topics and speakers for
all AzAFP CME meetings.
If you are interested in serving as a
presenter at an upcoming meeting, we encourage you to submit a
proposal. The easiest way to do this is to complete the CME Activity Proposal Form, and e-mail or mail it to
Jamie Geng
Director of Education
AzAFP
5320 N 16th Street, Suite 102
Phoenix, AZ 85016
Your
proposal will be submitted to the Education Committee for consideration
at its next scheduled meeting. The committee may say "yes," "no," or
"need more information." The more information you can provide with your
initial proposal, the easier and faster it will be for the Education
Committee to make a final decision.

Desert Net: Arizona Family and Community Medicine Research Network
Through a grant from St Joseph's Hospital Foundation, the Arizona Family and Community Medicine Research Network---affectionately known as Desert Net---was established in late 2008. It's an opportunity for those involved in family and community medicine, but not necessarily in academia or research settings, to get together and engage in small research projects. Desert Net participants are still discussing possible research endeavors.
To get on the Desert Net listserv, email Jamie Geng at JGeng@AzAFP.org.
As attachment sizes to listserv emails are limited, you may periodically be directed to this webpage to download PDF attachments.
